Nicole McFarlane, Leon Tolbert, and Fran Li at the IEEE Panel of Editors Meeting

Li, McFarlane, and Tolbert attend IEEE Publication Event

Professors Fran Li, Nicole McFarlane, and Leon Tolbert attended the 2024 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Panel of Editors (POE) Meeting April 11–13, in San Diego, California.

The IEEE POE meeting serves as an annual gathering for leaders of IEEE publications, including editors-in-chief of IEEE journals and vice presidents of IEEE societies. The invitation of three UT EECS professors to this prestigious event underscores the department’s prominence and leadership in the field of electrical and electronics engineering.

Li has been a John W. Fisher Professor (formerly John W. McConnell Professor) in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) since 2017, and the director of CURENT since 2024. He has been serving as the EIC of the IEEE Open Access Journal of Power and Energy since 2020. In the past, he served as an associate editor, consulting editor, or deputy EIC at several other IEEE and international journals before taking his current EIC role.

McFarlane is currently an associate professor in EECS working on carbon-based nanostructures and CMOS-based solutions for biological, environmental, and nuclear science applications. She has been serving as the EIC of the IEEE Open Journal of Circuits and Systems since early 2023. She recently completed two terms on the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society Board of Governors and currently serves on the society’s Biomedical and Life Science Circuits and Systems and the Sensory Systems Technical Committees.

Tolbert is currently interim head of EECS and a Chancellor’s Professor. He is also serving as the chair of the Publications Committee for the IEEE Industry Applications Society and the deputy EIC for the IEEE Power Electronics Magazine associated with the IEEE Power Electronics Society. Previously, he has been an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications and IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics.
