Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

History

In early 2008, UT campuses owned a wide spectrum of licenses for MATLAB products including individual, concurrent, group, classroom, and student versions. Purchases were made through the University Center Computer Store, OIT, individual units/departments, faculty, staff, and students. The TAH contract seeks to simplify the administration of MATLAB at UT while expanding MATLAB usage by engineers, scientists and students.

In December 2007, the College of Engineering submitted a Student Technology Fee proposal to UT's Office of Information Technology (OIT) for a site-wide license of Matlab with various subsets of Matlab toolboxes. The original proposal was not funded, however, negotiations continued between OIT, the College of Engineering and Mathworks to fund not only a UT-Knoxville site license, but a UT system-wide license for MATLAB.

Many thanks to all COE faculty who helped make this agreement possible: Doug Birdwell, Wayne Davis, Alberto Garcia, Dave Icove, Jesse Poore, Tse-Wei Wang, and Luther Wilhelm.
