Hager Environmental and Atmospheric Technologies (HEAT) is searching for a full-stack developer candidate. HEAT is a cutting-edge environmental company using a NASA spinoff technology to detect and measure emissions. HEAT has made an impact worldwide with groundbreaking remote sensing hardware and is building a software team to meet the demands of a growing client base.

Our preferred candidate should be creative and have an eagerness to learn new things. They should be very comfortable with software development in a commercial setting and should be able to meet deadlines.

Required Qualifications

A candidate for this position MUST be able to:

  • Competently navigate a Linux shell
  • Troubleshoot problems by reading documentation, forums, or other resources
  • SSH into remote servers
  • Use Git comfortably
  • Commit and push code to a remote
  • Create a new repository
  • Merge one branch into another and fix merge conflicts if needed
  • Setup a .gitignore for a new project
  • Develop in the Python programming language
  • Use pip to install modules and use those modules in Python
  • Create classes which make use of Python’s ‘dunder’ methods (like __repr__)
  • Document modules, classes, functions, and variables with docstrings
  • Follow the code conventions defined in PEP 8
  • Write meaningful unit and integration tests

A candidate MUST:

  • Be able to live and work in the United States
  • Pass a background check and drug test
  • Live in or be willing to move to Knoxville, Tennessee (we are not offering remote work at this time)

Desired Qualifications

Additionally, a candidate SHOULD be able to:

  • Intelligently and helpfully document their code
  • Develop in the C# programming language
  • Develop in the C++ programming language
  • Work in the ASP.NET framework
  • Use AWS resources like EC2 instances and EBS storage

Finally, a candidate SHOULD:

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field
  • Have 2 or more years of experience programming
