EECS IT Undergraduate Student Assistant

Gain marketable IT experience while earning a degree. The EECS department is accepting applications for an undergraduate student assistant position (20 hours). Under the direction of the EECS IT Staff, student assistants maintain hardware and software in EECS teaching and research labs and provide help desk support for EECS faculty, staff, and students.


  • Enrolled as a student at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville with a good academic standing
  • Available to work 15-20 hours/week year-round beginning spring term 2019
  • US citizen or permanent resident
  • A working knowledge of Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows operating systems
  • Exceptional oral and written English language skills
  • Highly motivated to learn new computer and network skills


  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Web development, PHP, CSS, scripting languages
  • Linux system administration – installation, setup, and troubleshooting
  • Windows Server 2012 or greater system administration – installation, setup, and troubleshooting
  • Mac OS X – installation, setup, and troubleshooting
  • Students pursuing a major in an EECS degree program
  • Experience managing an academic computer laboratory
  • Previous experience in a customer service environment
  • Able to hold the position for at least one year and continuously until graduation
