EECS faculty members Jeremy Holleman and Itamar Arel have recently been awarded a research contract from the National Science Foundation titled "Hierarchical Unsupervised Inference Using Robust Neuromorphic Computation,"which aims to study electronics circuits that mimic cortical circuits in the human brain.
The project merges research themes from Arel's work on biologically-inspired cognitive architectures together with Holleman's work on neuromorphic circuits. The overarching aim of the project is to build low-power chips that perform intelligent pattern recognition tasks, inspired by the manner by which humans do so.
