GA positions with GLORIAD project
The Global Ring Network for Advanced Applications Development (GLORIAD) is an advanced science internet network constructed as an optical ring around the Northern Hemisphere – connecting universities, national labs and science facilities across the U.S., Russia, China, Korea, Canada, Netherlands and the Nordic countries – with individual network circuits providing up to 10 Gbps. Learn more about the project at www.gloriad.org.We are looking to hire 2 graduate assistants for the following positions:
1. Software development
The students will be involved in design and feature implementation of software for a network-monitoring box. This will be based on the open source network monitoring software nprobe. The tasks may include improving the existing version of software to include more features, designing database system to store the data, deploying servers and other network equipments.
Qualifications
• Pursuing M.S./PhD degree in Computer Science.
• Have a B.S. degree in Computer Science.
• Strong Object oriented coding and design skills.
• Familiarity with database systems like MySQL is a plus.
• Knowledge of Perl or other scripting language is a plus.
• Good teamwork and people skill.
• Flexibility and openness to changing environment.
2. Web-application development
This job will involve developing new features for the dvNOC tool. GLORIAD’s Distributed Virtual Network Operations Center (dvNOC) is a web-based application that helps international teams to share information and manage the network. The dvNOC tool provides a set of tabs each devoted to some aspect of network monitoring, troubleshooting or fault mitigation. The “GLORIAD Earth” tab in dvNOC (http://dev.gloriad.org:8080/viz/dvnoc/dvnoc.html#) is currently operational and displays real-time network utilization data.
Qualifications
• Pursuing M.S. degree in Computer Science.
• Have a B.S. degree in Computer Science.
• Experience in Flash, JavaScript, XML.
• Familiarity with database systems like MySQL is a plus.
• Knowledge of Perl or other scripting language is a plus.
• Good teamwork and people skill.
• Flexibility and openness to changing environment.
