“The Mimic Dataset Generation Library: A Patient Processing Tool
for the MIMIC‐III Database”

The Mimic‐III Intensive Care Patient database is widely used in research regarding the
survivability of patients in the ICU. However, the data within Mimic has multiple formats
and errors, leaving it up to the user to discover, interpret and process the data however they
wish. One issue that stems off of this is that it is not easy to reproduce or verify results across
publications. Another issue is the time that it takes for one to process the data, especially
when not all researchers have experience writing code to extract and process information.
The Mimic Dataset Generation Library (MDGL) is a tool that solves these problems, allowing
a user to easily specify the information they wish to obtain from the database, have all data
processed in a standardized way, and quickly generate meaningful patient datasets, which
can easily be reproduced using the original specifications.
